Jakkalsvlei

Jakkalsvlei

Jakkalsvlei, directly translated as Jackal’s Marsh, is a family-owned winery nestled in the beautiful, world-famous Garden Route. The Jonker family has been proud owners of Jakkalsvlei since 1972, and today it is farmed by the 3rd generation Jonkers on the farm. The farmland was called Jakkalsvlei because of all the foxes, jackals and wild cats that can be seen in the mountains surrounding the farmland. While hunting in the Southern Cape during this time, Nelis Jonker senior was inspired to buy this beautiful piece of land. Jantjie Jonker, Nelis’s grandson settled on the farm in 2006 and in 2008 he bottled the first wine under the Jakkalsvlei label.

Today Jakkalsvlei wines are enjoyed by people all over the Garden Route, including some fine restaurants. You can’t help but fall in love with the breathtaking views and the beautiful mountain range surrounding the farm. Come explore this unique, off the beaten track wine farm in the Garden Route and experience true Southern Cape hospitality.

Jakkalsvlei was founded in 1972 and is located 50km from Mossel Bay on the R327. Wine production on the farm is  – 400 ton / 8000 cases (12 bottles/case). The state-of-the-art tasting room is nestled between the vineyards and here you can enjoy white, rosé, red and dessert wines while enjoying the breathtaking view of the farm and mountains.

Jakkalsvlei has a single track mountain bike trail as well as a hiking trail that is open to the public. Tasting room and sales are open every day except Good Friday and Christmas Day. Cheese platters are available or you can order items from the restaurant menu.

Picnic baskets can be provided on request.
