Botha Kelder registered as a co-operation in 1948.
One year later, they enjoyed their first harvest despite the cellar not being completed yet. This made for a difficult harvest but Botha Kelder produced a harvest of 3 386 tons that year.
The same determination, passion and sense of momentum that characterised its early years has fuelled Botha Kelder’s growth over the years, creating one of South Africa’s leading cellars today.
Named after the majestic views of the Simonsberg Mountain, Simonsig Estate is situated in the famous Stellenbosch Winelands just 45 km east of Cape Town. In the design of Saronberg’s Cellar we considered a variety of production facilities and available techniques, looking to utilize existing technology in an innovative way. Hence we incorporated the force-cooling of grapes, intensive hand-sorting and the use of gravity during the fermentation process.
We essentially wanted a hands-on cellar that would provide the winemaker with many options, allowing him to focus on detail while adhering to our winemaking philosophy.

For this 300-year old wine estate, history was made in 1714 when Christina Stans, widow of the first owner, planted 60,000 vines on the rolling hills of Meerendal. Following in her footsteps, Liza Goodwin, cellarmaster and winemaker since 1998, kept this tradition alive. Privately owned since 2004, Meerendal Wine Estate has been developing into one of South Africa’s top wine estates. Since 2012, “Team Meerendal” has represented the wine estate at the world’s biggest and toughest mountain bike race, the Absa Cape Epic.

LovanE is one of the smallest wine estates near Stellenbosch, situated in the picturesque Boland, neighbouring the famous Neethlingshof Wine Estate and Overgaauw Wine Estate. 2.5 Hectare vineyards were planted on virgin land in 2003. The plantings consist of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
