2017 has without a doubt been a phenomenal year for Paul Cluver Wines, receiving local and international acclaim for their superb range of wines. The latest in an already impressive lineup was the award for the Best Chardonnay in the World at the 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards for its Seven Flags Chardonnay 2016.

The Decanter World Wine Awards results were announced in London on 25 May 2017, which saw 219 expert judges taste the 17 200 entries to eventually award the coveted Platinum Best in Show medals. Paul Cluver Wines was only one of two South African producers to receive this prestigious medal. A total of 34 Platinum Best in Show medals were awarded. The judging panel included 65 Masters of Wine and 20 Master Sommeliers.

The Estate Chardonnay 2016 was awarded a Gold medal at the same competition, proving that South Africa is without a doubt a world-leader when it comes to this underrated varietal.

London seems to love Paul Cluver Wines when earlier this month at the International Wine Challenge the Seven Flags Pinot Noir 2015 walked away with three trophies: the Elgin Pinot Trophy, South African Pinot Noir Trophy and South African Red Wine Trophy. In the April issue of Decanter magazine, The Paul Cluver Estate Chardonnay 2015 and Seven Flags Chardonnay 2015 were both rated as Outstanding by three of Britain’s Masters of Wine (MW).  Only five other South African Chardonnays received the same rating out of a total of 120 wines tasted and reviewed for the magazine.

Closer to home they were awarded with no less than 10 awards at this year’s The National Wine Challenge | Top 100 SA Wines. Six of the wines received Double Platinum awards as well as the prestigious Top 100 status for 2017 as well as the Grand Cru National Champion – Best in Class. They were also one of six producers to have received the Vineyard Consistency Special Award at this year’s competition, having won 26 Top 100 placings over the past seven years.

"All the credit goes to the entire Paul Cluver Wines team. This shows an understanding of our terroir with the ability to adapt to vintage changes to still produce wines at the highest quality, “says Managing Director, Paul Cluver.
