“Latest 2016 vintage estate’s best rosé yet”

Gabriëlskloof Estate, a family wine jewel nestled atop a hill on the outskirts of

Bot River, has just released the 2016 vintage of its delightfully dry Rosebud – a delicately restrained rosé reminiscent of the Provençal style of Southern France.

“Our Rosebud is a rosé with conviction and our 2016 vintage is certainly our best one yet. One that will inspire hashtags! Made with serious intent, it is slightly drier than previous vintages and lighter in colour,” shares Gabriëlskloof Cellarmaster Peter-Allan Finlayson.

Alluring with freshness, finesse and the faintest salmon hue, it is a crisp mélange of Shiraz (55%) and Viognier (45%). The grapes were picked at a balling of about 23 and the two varietals were pressed and fermented together.

Flavours of papaya, rose and melon are apparent but not overpowering, with spicy red fruit in the background thanks to the Shiraz component.

“It is a graceful, yet firm pink wine with enough fruit but also with enough acidity and savoury notes to make you want another sip. And yes you can drink rosé and still be a badass,” adds Peter-Allan.

The complex yet infinitely drinkable Gabrielskloof Rosebud 2016 delights and surprises at R70  a bottle and is ideal as an aperitif while it also complements smoked salmon;  crayfish thermidor; sushi; Japanese tempura and teriyaki; mushroom or truffle risotto, and creamy goat’s cheese exceptionally well.

Technical analysis: Alcohol: 12,7%; Residual sugar: 2.8g/L; Total Acid: 6.2; pH: 3.22.
