Grande Provence strikes Gold at Concours Mondial 2016

Grande Provence Sav blanc

A zesty cool climate Sauvignon Blanc crafted at Grande Provence by winemaker Karl Lambour has wowed international judges, bringing home a gold medal from the 23rd Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

The award winning Grande Provence Sauvignon Blanc 2015 stood out amongst over 8 750 wines from 51 producer countries at this year’s competition which took place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The 320 strong judging panel of sommeliers, wine buyers, importers and wine commentators representing 54 nationalities meet annually to reveal latest trends within the world of wine and provide an updated snapshot of the global industry.

Expressing its origins from selected vineyards in Durbanville, an acclaimed appellation producing some of the finest South African Sauvignon Blancs, the 2015 Grande Provence rendition shows an abundance of fruit combined with greener aromas typical of these cool climate wines.

”The vines, fanned by cooling breezes off the Atlantic Ocean during summer months, produce remarkable fruit with full, juicy berries that are rich in character and flavour,” says winemaker Karl Lambour.

Ripe fig and the abundance of fruit are well balanced on the palate by zesty acidity ending in a long, lingering finish. This refreshing wine is eminently drinkable on its own or as a food wine with vegetarian dishes, chicken salads, lightly seasoned shell-on prawns, fresh crab or grilled sea bass.

The Grande Provence Sauvignon Blanc 2015 sells for R105 per bottle at the Grande Provence Tasting Room in Franschhoek, and can be found at leading wine shops and fine dining restaurants. For added convenience, this wine can be purchased online from www.grandeprovence.co.za. Purchases of 12 bottles or more qualify for free delivery anywhere in South Africa.
